Oregon Coast Railriders offers guided tours with a unique twist – guests travel along a picturesque six-mile stretch of the historic Coos Bay railway on pedal-powered vehicles with four recumbent-style seats. Owners Kim and Anita Metlen secured a contract with the Port of Coos Bay for the use of the rails starting from Sturdivant Park in Coquille, allowing adventurers to experience the scenic beauty of the Oregon coast in a novel and engaging way.

It began in 2013, fueled by a hopeful vision and innovative concept. By 2014, the Wallowa Union Rail Authority gave the green light to test their bold idea of offering pedal-powered adventures on the railroad stretch from Joseph to Enterprise, Oregon. They are the first in the nation to offer rail-pedaling tours.

What started as a modest, two-person enterprise quickly expanded. To date, they’ve welcomed more than 50,000 guests, a figure that excludes ridership from their affiliates, Joseph Branch Railriders and Vance Creek Railriders.

Anita says the best part of owning this business is watching their employees grow as individuals, enjoy their jobs, and develop a rapport with guests.

Oregon Coast Railriders offers tours Thursdays to Mondays, from late May to mid-September, with departures at 9 AM, 12 noon, and 3 PM. Visit their website for further details. Happy rail riding!
